Message from the CEO:

A very warm welcome to our new-look website. I very much hope that you will find the information you are looking for on here!

Aurora Academies Trust (AAT) is a multi-academy trust that has been operating four schools in East Sussex since September 2012.  Our predecessor schools had a long history of underperformance and each was listed amongst the bottom 200 performing primary schools in the country.  In the short space of time since, there have been significant improvements in the education being provided to our young people and their families. Indeed, so much so, that when Ofsted carried out their first Section 5 inspections of our academies between May-July 2014, two of our schools, King Offa and Glenleigh, were already judged to be Good in all areas (King Offa had been in Special Measures at the date of transfer to AAT) and, although Heron Park and Oakwood still require improvement, inspectors noted the “rapid improvements” being made at both academies – subsequently, Oakwood also received a letter of praise from Sir Michael Wilshaw, the Head of Ofsted.  We are very proud of our children and their achievement is the central ‘pillar’ upon which our schools are built.

What makes AAT so special?  I could quote so many things but here are just a few: we are part of Mosaica’s international family of schools with direct links to over 60 schools and 2000 educators in The US, the Middle East and in India; we have outstanding nursery and early years practice (Oakwood nursery was judged Outstanding in all areas in May 2013 and our Director of Nurseries, Samantha Attwater has been recognised nationally as a DFE ‘Champion’); we have an award-winning humanities curriculum called Paragon which is driving up standards and engaging children and parents alike; we have seen improvements in attendance that have taken our academies above the national average; we have professional development programmes for leaders and teachers which are truly outstanding; and we have collaborative practice between our academies which makes working for AAT just like being part of a large family.  Our mantra is that we take what we do seriously … but we never take ourselves seriously. In short, we always work hard, but we have fun doing so!

But don’t just take my word for it – if you would like to visit us then please do not hesitate to contact me personally (e-mail below) or to contact one of our Executive Headteachers, John Greenwood or Paul Reilly – we would be delighted to see you, to share our ideas and philosophy and to allow you to see the brilliant stuff going on in our academies!

With my very warm regards

Tim McCarthy
