Teacher-Westvale Park

I completed my Level 6 apprenticeship alongside my SCITT training with Surrey South Farnham. I had previously gained a degree in Primary Education through The Open University. The trust, and my Headteacher, ensured I was able to continue working at the same time to achieve my dream of becoming a class teacher. Each week, we had a training session with other SCITT students who were all working towards the same goal: achieving QTS. In these sessions, we were able to debrief about the week we had, share all the highs and lows of the job, and also spend time catching up personally with people, many who became friends. These sessions ensured I had a wide understanding of every aspect of being a class teacher, developing on what I knew from my previous role as a HLTA. The sessions were not always of a written nature; there were lots of interactive and fun sessions, too! I also enjoyed a second placement where I spent time with a different year group. This allowed my professional development, knowledge and understanding to widen, and gain a deeper understanding of how the primary curriculum links together.  After completing my SCITT, I gained QTS in Summer 2 and gained Level 6 apprenticeship with distinction in Autumn 1 of this year. I gained two qualifications for the price of one! I am thoroughly enjoying being a class teacher at Westvale Park and providing children with the opportunity to learn and grow.
